Camilia Watercolor Workshop

There are over 300 Japanese camellias in The Gardens represented by over 125 cultivars. Flower colors range from the purest white to the reddest red and flower forms can be very simple (single) or very complex (formal double).

Use your artistic skills to illustrate and create a Botanical Portrait working with flora from The Elizabethan Garden’s greenhouses and grounds. Learn basic drawing skills, observation, and watercolor techniques to create a botanical painting.

Drawing Nature in Pen and Ink

Explore nature's world of color, textures, and complexity and create a black and white illustration. Working with a technical pen, learn techniques to make strokes that mimic the fuzz on a fern, the fur on an otter or feathers on your favorite bird. Learn how to create lines and stipple to develop a full range of values and texture.  Beginner to Intermediate.

Botanical and Nature Watercolor Workshop
Freedom Park, Williamsburg Virginia

This is a unique opportunity to learn the basics for creating botanical art including demonstrations in drawing and watercolor.  After a presentation on Botanical Art, students will walk to the garden and select a specimen to work from. Students will then "discover" their wonderful specimen, leaf-by-leaf ~ petal-by-petal, and create a line drawing to paint from.  Each student will work at their own pace while the instructor "visits" with each student individually.  All skill levels are welcomed. Materials List to be provided.

"Art in the Garden" Children's Workshop
at The Williamsburg Botanical Garden
Come to the garden and create a botanical portrait in colored pencil or watercolor from a cutting that you select. Local Botanical Artist, Linda Miller will lead this fun workshop where the children learn to see and draw the wonders of flora. All materials are included.
